Closed loop control of melt pool width in laser directed energy deposition process based on PSO-LQR

A closed-loop controller was proposed to adjust the laser power maintain melt pool stability based on linear quadratic regulator (LQR) control theory. The width acquisition system built complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS), and captured image processed using an processing algorithm obtain width. used as input variable output variable. state space spatial model identified subspace method identify experimental data. LQR designed equation, improve controller’s performance reduce hassle of selecting weighting matrix Q in LQR. particle swarm optimization (PSO) optimize globally, optimal obtained. evaluated by constant-width variable-width thin-wall deposition samples, results showed that is simple, efficient, able stable real-time. It can effectively reliance manual experience.
